ESG has never been a more critical and complex landscape to navigate.
With consumers increasingly valuing sustainability, it’s growing from a fringe consideration to a core requirement. What was once a noble notion, “do no harm” no longer satisfies the market’s appetite for sustainable action. Brands must move towards a new standard of “leaving things better”.
To get to the heart of this matter, earlier in the Festival we hosted roundtables with key industry figures from investors, developers, operators, architects and interior designers where we worked with Kaitlyn Skov, Founder of STUDIO SKOV, exploring her methodology, S4, for maximising value and sustainability throughout hospitality development and operations.

Join us and host Kaitlyn Skov on January 23rd for session 2 of our ESG series – ‘Solving the Sustainability Value Equation’.
In this follow up session, we’re bringing together diverse industry perspectives and leaders to better explore the value equation in this era of new-gen sustainability. Through greater education and understanding of perspectives across all the roles and disciplines within the hotel ecosystem - ‘Collective Intelligence’ - we believe we can more positively impact the future.
8:30am – breakfast and hotel tour
9am - Intro from Kaitlyn Skov, Founder of STUDIO SKOV, giving an overview her methodology, S4, for maximising value and sustainability throughout hospitality development and operations, and the key takeaways from our earlier workshops
9:20am - ‘ Solving the Sustainability Value Equation’ - Hosted by Kaitlyn Skov, in conversation with Matt Mason of Crosstree, Andreea Bodea of Pygmalion Capital, Heymo Nyoni of Kinsfolk & Co and Nick de Klerk of Purcell.
Hear from some of the leading names from across the hospitality eco-system for collective conversations and debate around the findings, challenges and opportunities that came out of the roundtables. Explore how we can start to solve for sustainability around these common themes and move from paper to practice to implement progressive initiatives and navigate the realities to ensure success.
10am - break
10:20am - ‘How do you create governance that can encourage and allow creativity and commerciality to thrive?’
In conversation with key public sector expert who has helped many organisations to drive change through evidence-based policy and principle-led governance. Hear expert opinion on how you ensure that the right people are empowered to share knowledge and shape solutions, and find innovative ways to make impactful and sustained change.
10:40am - ‘What does a purpose-led social business actually mean?’
Good Hotel is a purpose-led, social business. This means that their excess profits go to good causes around the world; they offer long-term unemployed people the opportunity to build a career in hospitality; they source locally and sustainably - from the furniture in their rooms to the food they serve; and they find interesting buildings and locations, which they re-use and upcycle.
In 2015 they set up the Good Training Program, their bespoke hospitality training course. So far they’ve retrained more than 300 employees and the success rate (people with a job 12 months after graduating) is over 70%. Hear directly from one of their graduates, Paul Singh, in conversation with Katie Brinsmead-Stockham, Brand and Strategy consultant to Good Hotel, about what the programme entails, what it has done for him and his journey since graduating.
